Sedgwick County unveils plans for Envision Building remodel and new construction options

A significant proposal for the future of Sedgwick County's administrative facilities was unveiled during the Board of Commissioners Staff Meeting on August 19, 2025. The meeting focused on a comprehensive analysis of the Envision Building, located at the corner of Main and Pine, which aims to address the county's growing space needs and improve operational efficiency.

Justin, a representative from Shaffer, presented detailed plans for the renovation and expansion of the existing building. The proposal includes the construction of a new BOCC meeting room and the remodeling of approximately 72% of the current 70,000 square feet of space. The plans also highlight the need for additional parking, with a proposed total of 180 spaces to accommodate increased foot traffic.

Key features of the renovation include designated areas for various departments, such as the treasurer's office and human resources, along with shared meeting spaces to foster collaboration. The design emphasizes accessibility, with plans to update restrooms to meet ADA standards, particularly on the fourth floor, which has not been remodeled in years.

The estimated total cost for the renovation and expansion is approximately $26.5 million, which includes the purchase of the building, parking lot improvements, and necessary upgrades to mechanical systems. This investment is seen as crucial for enhancing the county's administrative capabilities and ensuring that facilities meet modern standards.

In addition to the renovation plans, the meeting also touched on the potential for new construction at Third and Main, which could further expand the county's administrative footprint. This option is projected to cost over $32 million and would create a more campus-like environment for county services.
