Edmond Planning Commission Approves PUD Rezoning on Air Depot Boulevard

A significant rezoning proposal took center stage at the recent Edmond Planning Commission meeting, as officials discussed a planned unit development (PUD) on the southeast corner of Danforth Road and Air Depot Boulevard. The proposal seeks to rezone approximately 16.5 acres from general agricultural (GA) to PUD, aiming to blend commercial and residential uses in a growing area.

The development plan includes two distinct tracks. Track 1, covering about 2.3 acres, is positioned at the arterial intersection and is set to accommodate commercial and civic uses such as retail, restaurants, medical offices, and childcare facilities. Meanwhile, Track 2, which spans roughly 14 acres, will feature residential options, including duplexes, with a maximum building height of 35 feet.

The Edmond Plan 2018, the city's comprehensive plan, designates the area as a suburban neighborhood, indicating that the proposed development aligns with the city's growth strategy. City staff expressed support for the rezoning, noting that it meets the intent of the comprehensive plan and includes provisions for significant tree preservation as a buffer.

Jessica Bloy from Johnson and Associates, representing the applicant, emphasized the thoughtful design of the project, which aims to enhance the community while providing necessary services and housing options. The commission is expected to continue reviewing the proposal, with further discussions anticipated in upcoming meetings.
