Forney City Council Approves Conditional Use Permit for Auto Repair Business

The Forney City Council convened on August 19, 2025, to discuss a significant development proposal that could impact local residents. The council held a public hearing regarding a conditional use permit (CUP) for a minor auto repair business to operate on a 1.52-acre site at the intersection of East Broad Street and Kaufman Street.

The proposal, presented by Mr. Morgan, aims to establish an auto repair facility featuring five service bays. The services offered will include oil changes, brake fluid checks, and other minor repairs, aligning with the city's zoning regulations. Initially, the applicant sought to include used auto sales in their request, but after discussions with city officials, they revised their proposal to focus solely on auto repair.

During the meeting, the council noted that they had notified adjacent property owners about the proposal. While only one resident expressed concerns regarding auto-related businesses on Broad Street, the Planning and Zoning Commission recommended approval of the CUP with a 5-1 vote, indicating a general consensus on the project's compatibility with the area.

Wade Harden, representing the applicant, emphasized that the proposed business aligns with the city’s comprehensive plan and zoning regulations. He highlighted the surrounding industrial and storage uses, as well as natural buffers like the railroad and floodplain, which could mitigate potential impacts on the neighborhood.

After a brief public comment period, the council moved to approve the ordinance amending the zoning to allow for the auto repair business. The motion passed unanimously, marking a step forward for the development.
