Austin Police Department Honors Retiring Officers for Decades of Service

The Austin Police Department (APD) held its Summer Awards Ceremony on August 20, 2025, honoring several retiring members for their dedicated service to the community. The event celebrated the contributions of various officers and staff, highlighting their commitment and achievements throughout their careers.

The ceremony began with a tribute to April Arzola, a 911 call taker who served the city for 25 years. Her tenure included responding to numerous emergencies, and she was recognized for her unwavering dedication during challenging times.

Sergeant Chandra Irvin was also honored for her leadership and mentorship within the department. Her career was marked by a commitment to public service, positively impacting both her colleagues and the community. The ceremony expressed gratitude for her legacy as she transitions into retirement.

Other notable retirements included Corporal Doug Ellis, who served for 23 years, and Detective Elijah Neely, recognized for his investigative skills and dedication. Lieutenant James Beck, with 30 years of service, was acknowledged for his extensive work in community policing and emergency management.

The ceremony also celebrated Assistant Chief Jazette Gaslin Disher, who was commended for her positive energy and community engagement efforts. Her new role as Chief of Police for Austin Community College was noted, with hopes for future collaboration.

Additional retirements included Senior Police Officer Judd Chapman, who served for over 24 years, and Sergeant Christina Oldham, recognized for her hard work and dedication throughout her career. Leon Hernandez, an inventory control specialist, was also honored for his dependable service and contributions to the department.

The event concluded with heartfelt wishes for all retirees as they embark on new chapters in their lives, emphasizing the lasting impact they have made on the Austin Police Department and the community they served.
