Austin Police Department Honors Officers for Life Saving Actions in Multiple Incidents

In a heartfelt ceremony held on August 20, 2025, the Austin Police Department (APD) honored several officers for their extraordinary acts of bravery and lifesaving interventions. The event, filled with emotion and gratitude, showcased the dedication of APD personnel who risked their lives to protect and save others in critical situations.

The ceremony highlighted the heroic actions of Detective Davis, who responded to a distressing call on November 10, 2024. A witness reported a male throwing a female over a bridge, and within moments, Detective Davis arrived on the scene. Without hesitation, he climbed down to the creek below, where the victim lay bleeding and slipping in and out of consciousness. His swift actions not only pulled her to safety but also ensured she received the medical attention necessary to save her life.

Corporal Thomas Villarreal was also recognized for his courageous response to a suicidal individual on May 18, 2024. He bravely intervened to prevent a tragedy, physically restraining the distressed subject who was preparing to jump from a bridge. His calm demeanor and decisive actions were pivotal in ensuring the individual received the help they needed.

Officer Riley Smith received accolades for her quick response on February 15, 2025, when she encountered a high-risk suicidal female attempting to jump from a parking garage. Her immediate intervention not only saved the woman’s life but also highlighted the urgency and importance of mental health awareness.

The ceremony continued with the recognition of Officers Adam Carodi and Rosalie Callejas, who provided critical medical assistance to a subject with severe injuries. Their teamwork and quick thinking in applying tourniquets and managing the situation were instrumental in saving the individual’s life.

Further commendations were given to Officers Joshua Lobb and Allen DiMartini for their rapid response to an attempted suicide, where their actions in cutting down a subject and performing CPR were crucial in reviving him.

The event also acknowledged the leadership of Sergeant Robert Lussier, who transformed a struggling unit into a high-performing team, demonstrating the impact of effective leadership on morale and productivity within the department.
