Mayor Trevino honors two students and a patent holder for achievements in Laredo

In a vibrant display of community pride, the Laredo City Council meeting on August 18, 2025, celebrated the achievements of local students and innovators, highlighting the city's commitment to fostering talent and leadership among its youth.

The meeting kicked off with the council's approval of minutes from the previous session, but the real spotlight shone on two remarkable students from Harmony School of Innovation, Zoe Castaneda and Luis Ivan Zapata Espinosa. Both were recognized for their participation in the prestigious National Youth Leadership Forum at Rice University, where they engaged in hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Mayor Dr. Victor Trevino praised their accomplishments, stating, "It's always a great thing to have youth in our community achieving great things."

Luis shared his excitement about the program, expressing gratitude for the support he received from his teachers, particularly Ms. Salia Salinas. The mayor and council members echoed their pride, emphasizing the importance of nurturing young leaders who represent Laredo on broader stages.

The meeting also honored Manuel Christian Cardenas, a Laredo native and recent U.S. patent holder. Cardenas recounted his journey, attributing his success to the foundational support he received from the Laredo community. "This is more than a patent. It is a symbol that ideas born here, dreams started here, can reach anywhere," he stated, inspiring attendees with his story of perseverance and local pride.
