Lexington Honors Doctor Crystal Miller and Public Health Heroes at Annual Awards Ceremony

The Lexington Fayette County Board of Health honored two exceptional individuals with the 2025 Doctor Rice C. Leach Public Health Hero Award during a special ceremony on August 14, 2025. The recipients, Dr. Ebony Elamin and Dr. Lindsey Jasinski, were recognized for their significant contributions to improving public health in Lexington.

Dr. Elamin, president of Project Ricochet, was celebrated for her tireless advocacy for health equity and her initiatives addressing chronic disease prevention and mental health awareness. Mayor Linda Gorton proclaimed August 14 as Doctor Ebony Elamin Day in recognition of her impactful work in fostering economic empowerment and advocating for policy changes to eliminate systemic barriers in health and education.

Dr. Jasinski, chief administrative officer at Eastern State Hospital, was also honored for her leadership in establishing the Commonwealth's first emergency psychiatric assessment unit, known as EMPATH. This facility has been pivotal in addressing mental health needs in the community. Mayor Gorton declared August 14 as Doctor Lindsey Jasinski Day, acknowledging her dedication to compassionate mental health care.

Both honorees expressed gratitude for the recognition and emphasized the importance of their work in the community. Dr. Jasinski highlighted the growth and impact of the EMPATH unit, which has been recognized nationally for its excellence in mental health services.

Council member Reynolds, who serves on the Board of Health, praised the recipients for their inspiring contributions, noting that their efforts are changing lives and motivating others in Lexington.

The ceremony not only celebrated the achievements of these public health leaders but also underscored the ongoing commitment of the Lexington community to enhance health and well-being for all residents.
