A dilapidated structure located at 1711 East Carson Street in San Antonio has raised significant safety concerns during the recent Building Standards Board meeting. Built in 1948, the property has been vacant since February 2025 and is now deemed hazardous due to extensive deterioration.

The board highlighted alarming issues, including sagging roofs, detached siding, and severe water damage. The building, which is situated within a thousand feet of Pershing Elementary School, has not undergone any permitted repairs since 1999, leading to its current state of disrepair. The foundation is unlevel, causing structural instability, with visible step cracking in the brick veneer and warped wood siding.

Photos presented during the meeting revealed the extent of the damage: collapsing ceilings, exposed wall studs, and a second-story balcony supported by unstable 2x4s. The city officials noted that the risks associated with the property are so severe that they cannot send contractors to secure or clean the site.
