Stafford City Council Approves $140K for Generator Services and EOC Upgrade Planning

Stafford city officials made significant strides in enhancing public safety and community infrastructure during the recent city council meeting on August 6. A key highlight was the Stafford Police Department's presentation on the Texas Police Chief's Accreditation Program, which aims to ensure compliance with 164 best practices in law enforcement. Captain Nathan Khan reported a positive trend in the department's use of force, with a decrease of 23 incidents compared to the previous year, alongside a reduction in vehicle pursuits from 12 to 8 incidents.

Financial updates were also a focal point, with sales tax revenue showing promising results. The council discussed a budget amendment for the fiscal year 2025, although the motion for approval did not pass.

Public works needs were addressed, particularly concerning backup generators that had not been serviced in four years. The council approved a $140,000 contract to ensure these generators are operational, especially critical as hurricane season approaches.

Additionally, Assistant Fire Chief Jose Magan presented plans for upgrading the Emergency Operations Center, with funding primarily sourced from a grant program.

In a separate planning and zoning commission meeting, two specific use permits for religious institutions were approved, indicating ongoing community development efforts.
