The Keep Henrico Beautiful Committee shone a spotlight on environmental stewardship during the Board of Supervisors meeting on June 24, 2025, as it presented its annual Land Lover and Clean Business Awards. The awards recognize individuals and businesses that demonstrate exceptional commitment to sustainability and community beautification.

Colin Walthall, chairman of the Keep Henrico Beautiful program, introduced the committee members and highlighted their mission to educate the public on litter prevention, recycling, and environmental care. The awards celebrate those who exemplify pride in their properties and actively engage in eco-friendly practices.

The first award, the Land Lover Award for the Brooklyn District, was presented to the Gwen family, who have dedicated 18 years to litter cleanup efforts and transformed their yard into a native plant haven. Their commitment to sustainability includes creating habitats for local wildlife.

Amber Brister received the Land Lover Award for the Fairfield District, recognized for her efforts in establishing pollinator gardens and planting fruit trees, all while maintaining an eco-friendly yard free of pesticides.

Lastly, Jared Dortchen and Maggie Graff were honored for their sustainable landscaping in the Tuckahoe District. Their property features over 150 native plants, a permeable driveway, and a commitment to composting, showcasing a model for water conservation.

These awards not only celebrate individual efforts but also inspire the community to embrace sustainable practices, reinforcing Henrico County's commitment to environmental stewardship.
