Bexar County approves $7.27M for 895 portable radios for public safety system

Bexar County is set to enhance its public safety communications with a significant investment in new technology. During the recent Commissioners Court meeting, officials approved the purchase of 895 portable radios and accessories for the P25 public safety radio system, totaling $7,267,303.30. This decision underscores the county's commitment to maintaining momentum in improving emergency response capabilities.

The funding will be allocated through the Texas Department of Information Resources and the Alamo Area Regional Radio System. The breakdown includes $5,000,801.07 for 800 replacement law enforcement radios from Daily Wells, and $1,205,575.30 for 20 replacement OEM FMO radios from Motorola. Additionally, a self-augmentation allowance of $260,000 will support deployment efforts.

The motion passed unanimously, with officials expressing enthusiasm for the upgrade. "Get it built," one commissioner urged, highlighting the urgency and importance of the project.
