City Commission Approves $307K for US 84 Eastbound Lane Design Project

The Dothan City Commission convened on June 17, 2025, to discuss several key initiatives aimed at improving local infrastructure and community safety. Among the most significant decisions was the approval of a project to widen a section of US 84 to a three-lane configuration, which is expected to enhance traffic flow and accessibility. The project is anticipated to begin by November, with the city planning to apply for a grant to support its funding next year.

This initiative aims to fund studies that identify safety concerns and propose improvements, including pedestrian enhancements and lighting upgrades. The total funding request amounts to $655,498 in federal funds, with a city contribution of $163,875.

Other agenda items included the declaration of certain city property as obsolete, the reappointment of Dr. Deborah Tetway to the Board of Zoning Adjustment, and the approval of invoices totaling over $26 million for May 2025. The meeting concluded with the approval of travel requests for city employees.
