Waxahachie High School's Art and UIL Academics Achieve State Success

The Waxahachie Independent School District (WISD) held a Called Board Meeting on May 5, 2025, where significant achievements in the arts and academics were celebrated, highlighting the district's commitment to fostering student excellence.

In the arts department, students from various classes showcased their talents at state-level competitions. Notably, Casey Herrera and Addison Hall from Miss Novotny's class excelled in the Visual Arts Scholastic Event (VASE), with Addison achieving the highest rating of 4. Additionally, Abby German and Elias Alshwecky from Miss German's class both earned perfect scores at the state event, while Madison Sharon from Miss Blankenbechler's class received a perfect score for her sculpture, marking her second consecutive qualification for state. The applause from the audience underscored the community's pride in these artistic accomplishments.

The meeting also highlighted the impressive performance of the Charmers, the school's dance team, which had a remarkable spring semester. Under Coach Wilcox, the team exceeded their competition expectations, earning numerous awards, including state and national championships. In academics, the UIL debate team made history by qualifying five members for state competition, a first for Waxahachie High School. The team, coached by Caitlin Noah and McKenna Taylor, demonstrated exceptional skill, with several members placing highly in district competitions. Jordan Lister, a standout performer, qualified for the state LD competition, marking a significant milestone in his academic career.

The UIL academic team also celebrated their title as district champions, a testament to the collaborative efforts of students and teachers across various disciplines.
