Pasadena ISD Board Certifies May 3 Election Results and Fills Board Vacancy

The Pasadena Independent School District (ISD) Board of Trustees convened a special meeting on May 14, 2025, at 5 PM in the Administration Building. The meeting was called to order by Board President Casey Phelan, with a quorum present, including board members Kenny Fernandez, Crystal Davila, Marshall Kendrick, and Nella Sullivan. Board member Paola Gonzales was absent.

The meeting began with an invocation and the Pledge of Allegiance. Following these formalities, the board moved to the public comment section, where no comments were made. The agenda included a closed session, but the board noted there were no items to discuss, leading to no action taken in that regard.

The first significant agenda item addressed was the appointment to fill a board member vacancy left by the passing of Vicky Morgan. A motion was made by Ms. Sullivan and seconded by Mr. Kendrick. The board members voted unanimously in favor of the motion, thereby filling the vacancy.

Next, the board considered the approval of the canvassing of election returns from the trustee election held on May 3, 2025. Superintendent provided a detailed report on the election results, which included positions 1 through 4 on the board. The results indicated that:

- For Position 1, Bella Gonzales received 3,092 votes (45.02%), Mary Davis received 2,480 votes (36.11%), and Maria Castillo received 1,296 votes (18.87%).
- For Position 2, Crystal Davila received 3,980 votes (57.84%), while Tammy Nielsen received 2,901 votes (42.16%).
- For Position 3, Nelda Sullivan received 4,509 votes (66.78%), and Fina Govia received 2,243 votes (33.22%).
- For Position 4, Casey Phelan received 4,404 votes (66.65%), and Yen Rabe received 2,204 votes (33.35%).

The total ballots cast for each position were noted, along with the number of under votes. The board then voted to approve the canvassing of these results, with a motion made by Mr. Kendrick and seconded by Ms. Davila, which passed unanimously.

The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn, which was also unanimously approved. The next steps for the board will involve further actions based on the newly canvassed election results and the ongoing governance of the district.
