Board Declares Former Taylor Canyon Elementary Property Surplus for Sale

The Ogden City School District Board of Education convened on August 21, 2025, to discuss several key agenda items, with a primary focus on the declaration of surplus property. The meeting began with the business administrator outlining the legal process for declaring property surplus, which involves notifying eligible entities, such as the city of Ogden and Weber County, who have the first right of refusal to purchase the property at its appraised value.

The property, consisting of just under five acres, has been maintained minimally by the district. Currently zoned for single-family dwellings (R-16), the board discussed petitioning for a rezone to R-15, which would allow for additional buildable lots while still restricting the property to single-family homes.

After thorough deliberation, the board concluded that the former Taylor Canyon Elementary property does not serve any future educational needs and voted to declare it as surplus. This decision will initiate the process of marketing the property, should the eligible entities express no interest in acquiring it. The board's actions reflect a strategic approach to managing district assets while adhering to state regulations.
