School District Enhances Safety with Updated Background Check Policies for Field Trips

Grain Valley Schools are taking significant steps to enhance student safety during their recent school board meeting on August 21, 2025. A key focus was the implementation of the Raptor system, which is designed to screen visitors entering school buildings. Board members expressed concerns about the system's efficiency during high-traffic events, such as talent shows, where large numbers of parents attend. In addition to the Raptor system, the board discussed updates to the background check process for volunteers. Starting this year, all volunteers accompanying students on field trips will be required to have a valid background check on file, which will now be updated every two years instead of every five. Furthermore, a new policy will prevent any single adult from being alone with a group of students during field trips, adding an extra layer of protection.
