Lakeville Historic Society Museum Secures Funding for Cupola Repairs and Cemetery Projects

The Lakeville Community Preservation Committee convened on August 21, 2025, to discuss several key projects impacting the community, including ongoing repairs at the Lakeville Historic Society Museum and cemetery restoration efforts.

One of the highlights of the meeting was the update on the museum's cupola repairs. Committee member Kathleen reported that restoration work is currently underway at the Blackburn workshop, with materials removed from the steeple. Joan, another committee member, shared that she has photos documenting the progress of the project, which has shown significant improvements. The committee expressed enthusiasm over the transformation, noting that some areas were previously overgrown and now look entirely different.

In financial matters, the committee approved an invoice for cemetery repairs amounting to $9,840, which came in under budget. A motion was made and unanimously approved to process this payment, with plans to ratify it in the following month’s meeting. Additionally, a $42 invoice for a replacement sign that had blown away was also approved, ensuring that the community's signage remains intact.

The meeting also touched on engineering costs related to upcoming projects. There was a discussion about the need for a detailed invoice before any payments could be made to ensure transparency and proper financial management. The committee emphasized the importance of having clear documentation before proceeding with payments, particularly for engineering services that have yet to commence.

As the meeting concluded, members reiterated their commitment to preserving Lakeville’s historical sites and ensuring that community projects are managed effectively and within budget. The committee looks forward to continuing these efforts and will reconvene next month to finalize the approvals discussed.
