Jacksonville Council Approves $1.5M Funding for Telehealth Services Initiative

The City of Jacksonville's Finance Committee convened on August 22, 2025, to discuss critical budget allocations, particularly focusing on telehealth services and JaxCare Connect funding. Dr. Matthew Thompson, CEO of Telescope Health, defended the telehealth program, stating it provides essential services that help divert patients from emergency rooms, thereby reducing overall healthcare costs. He confirmed that the proposed funding would allow the program to continue operating effectively.

In addition to telehealth, the committee addressed funding for JaxCare Connect, which supports local clinics. An amendment was proposed to allocate $45,000 for each of the six clinics involved in the program, totaling $270,000. This funding is seen as crucial for maintaining healthcare access for vulnerable populations in Jacksonville. The committee ultimately approved this allocation, emphasizing that no additional funding requests would be entertained mid-year.
