Beardsley Planning Commission approves conditional use permit for new fitness center

A new fitness center is set to open in Glendale, Arizona, following the Glendale Planning Commission's approval of a conditional use permit during their meeting on August 14, 2025. The proposed Burn Boot Camp will occupy approximately 5,000 square feet in the Arrowhead Ranch Center, located at the northeast corner of 50 Ninth Avenue and Beardsley Road, just north of the 101 Highway.

The fitness center aims to offer classes for 20 to 50 students, operating Monday through Saturday, with sessions starting as early as 5 AM on weekdays. Saturdays will feature boot camps at 7 and 8 AM, while the center will remain closed on Sundays. Notably, the facility will include a child watch area, allowing parents to participate in workouts while their children are cared for.

The site, previously zoned as a shopping center, has transitioned to a legacy zoning designation, reverting to C2 zoning requirements. This change means that the fitness center's operations will align with the current zoning regulations, ensuring compliance with local planning standards.

Public feedback on the proposal was largely positive, with two responses received—one seeking clarification and another expressing support. The commission found that the fitness center would not negatively impact surrounding residents or the city, as all activities will be contained within the suite, with no outdoor operations planned.

The commission unanimously recommended approval of the conditional use permit, subject to stipulations ensuring the development aligns with the submitted site plan and project narrative. This decision marks a significant step forward for the community, enhancing local commercial offerings and promoting health and wellness initiatives in Glendale.
