College Upgrades Heating Systems With $1.2M Investment For Efficiency And Program Expansion

Chesterfield County is set to enhance its educational facilities and energy efficiency following significant discussions during the Finance Committee Meeting held on August 18, 2025. A key decision was made to invest in a new central boiler system, which is expected to streamline operations across multiple buildings and yield substantial savings in energy costs.

The committee approved an additional funding request exceeding one million dollars for the installation of upgraded boiler and chiller lines in the Hundred Building. This investment, while costly upfront, is projected to save the college approximately $80,000 annually in power and gas usage. The move towards a centralized boiler system aims to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs in the long run.

In addition to the Hundred Building upgrades, the committee addressed the urgent need for replacements at the 500 Building, which has been plagued by frequent compressor issues due to its aging infrastructure. Plans are in place to renovate mechanical rooms to accommodate the new boiler system, although budget constraints have delayed these renovations.

Furthermore, the committee discussed a $1.2 million request for the Pageland campus aimed at expanding vocational programs in welding and machine tools.
