Benbrook Residents Urge City Council to Reject Floodplain Rezoning Proposal

During a recent Benbrook City Council meeting, residents voiced strong opposition to a proposed zoning change that would allow development in flood-prone areas, particularly in the Mary’s Creek neighborhood. Community members expressed concerns that the rezoning contradicts the city’s comprehensive plan, which aims to protect existing homes and preserve sensitive areas.

Victor Mashburn, a local resident, emphasized that the proposed change serves only to increase property values without any substantial benefit to the community. Mashburn argued that ignoring the plan undermines trust between the city government and its residents, stating, “If we set it aside, we break trust with people who live here.”
