City Commission approves Westside Dog Park project award to Waypoint Contracting

Tamarac officials have taken significant steps to enhance community services and facilities during their recent workshop meeting on August 25, 2025. Among the key decisions was the approval to add the Christian Coalition Against Domestic Abuse Inc. to the list of charitable entities, reflecting the city’s commitment to supporting local organizations dedicated to combating domestic violence.

In a move to improve recreational facilities, the city authorized the purchase of essential maintenance equipment for the Colony West Golf Course. This includes a John Deere Pro Gator utility vehicle and a precision cut triplex mower, with a total expenditure not exceeding $1,116,950.87, ensuring that the golf course remains well-maintained for residents and visitors alike.

The meeting also addressed the Yard on the Lawn event, where past purchases of entertainment services were ratified. The final invoice exceeded the original agreement, necessitating city commission approval for the additional costs.

A highlight of the meeting was the award of the Westside Dog Park project to Waypoint Contracting, a minority-owned business. The park will feature designated areas for large and small dogs, water fountains, shaded benches, and a central social seating area. The project is set to begin in 2026, with an estimated completion time of 500 days and a total budget of approximately $766,190.04.

Additionally, the city is seeking to increase its budget for special detail permits with the Broward Sheriff's Office due to a rise in event attendance and associated costs. An increase of up to $40,000 is proposed to cover these expenses for the remainder of the fiscal year.

Lastly, the Colony West Golf Club will see improvements with a new irrigation system, with a design contract amounting to $98,248.50, ensuring the course remains in top condition.

These initiatives reflect Tamarac's ongoing efforts to enhance community amenities and support local organizations, demonstrating a proactive approach to meeting the needs of its residents.
