Kenai Planning Commission approves conditional use permit for new pedestrian pathway

Kenai Peninsula Borough's Planning Commission has approved a conditional use permit for a new pedestrian pathway that will enhance connectivity in the area. During the meeting on August 25, 2025, the commission unanimously voted in favor of the project, which will create a pathway along the bridal access road, linking Beaver Loop Road to the main street loop in Kenai.

The proposed pathway will cross a burrow regulated in Anadromous Creek and will require approximately 116 cubic yards of fill to elevate the pathway to the appropriate grade. The project will also include a commitment to revegetate all disturbed areas with a seed mixture, ensuring environmental protection in the habitat protection district.

Public notice was provided to six property owners within 300 feet of the proposed pathway, and no objections were raised during the meeting. Chet Fairman, the environmental impact analyst for Alaska State Parks, represented the applicant and confirmed that the project meets the necessary standards set forth by the Kenai Peninsula Borough.

The commission's approval of resolution 2025-17 marks a significant step towards improving pedestrian access in the community, promoting outdoor activities, and enhancing the overall quality of life for residents.
