Washington County Announces Events for 250th Anniversary Celebration

Keedysville is gearing up for a vibrant celebration as it prepares for a grand opening of a historic church, thanks to a recently secured grant for slate roof replacement and necessary electrical work. The town is also planning engaging community events, including a trivia night and a walking tour featuring a newly developed brochure highlighting the historic homes and their significance.

In a broader context, Washington County is set to kick off a year-long celebration marking the 250th anniversary of both the United States and the county's founding. This will begin with a float in the upcoming Mummer's Parade in October, alongside the distribution of commemorative coins featuring the county seal and those of its nine municipalities.

The county is also organizing a major July 4 celebration at the AgCenter, which promises live music, vendors, children's activities, historical exhibits, and a spectacular drone show and fireworks—an exciting first for the area. Additionally, a birthday bash for Washington County is planned for August 30, 2026, at Penmore Park, further emphasizing the significance of this milestone.
