School Board Appoints Mike Wilson Liaison to Gifted Advisory Committee

Clarke County Public Schools is set to enhance its educational offerings following key decisions made during the School Board meeting on August 25, 2025. The board approved several supplemental appropriations aimed at improving student resources and support services.

One of the most significant actions taken was the approval of a $47,615.26 increase in the FY '26 school operating fund. This funding will be allocated to implement tutoring programs in response to new requirements under the Virginia Literacy Act. The board emphasized the importance of these funds in bolstering literacy education across the district.

Additionally, the board approved a $5,962.65 increase for the FY '24 Title 1 grant, which will provide essential materials and supplies for pre-kindergarten programs at Boyce and Cooley Elementary Schools. Moreover, a $23,999.54 increase from the FY '25 Title 2 grant will support professional development for teachers and school administration, enhancing the quality of education provided to students. Lastly, a $4,618.64 increase from the FY '25 Title 3 grant will focus on programs aimed at improving English language proficiency for English learners.

In addition to funding discussions, the board appointed Mike Wilson as the new liaison to the Gifted Advisory Committee, a role crucial for addressing the needs of students who may not qualify for magnet schools but require advanced educational opportunities.
