Mayor Welcomes 500 Diverse Students at McDaniel College's Orientation Event

The City of Westminster celebrated a vibrant welcome for approximately 500 first-year students from McDaniel College on Saturday, August 23. This year's incoming class is notably diverse, featuring the largest percentage of students from the college's Budapest campus, while only 15% hail from Carroll County, indicating a broader outreach effort.

Mayor of Westminster, along with council members Anne Gilbert and Kevin Day, greeted the students on the library lawn, marking what many considered one of the most successful welcome events to date. The atmosphere was lively, with students exploring downtown, shopping at local retail stores, and enjoying lunch at various eateries.

Later that day, the mayor, council member Dayhoff, and commissioner Tom Gordon participated in the "Find Your Purpose" back-to-school drive at Westminster City Park. This event, hosted by Billy Live, provided essential school supplies to students, including notebooks, backpacks, and writing materials. Local nonprofit organizations were present, and food was served by Collision Course, further enhancing the community spirit.

The successful engagement with McDaniel College students and the support for local schoolchildren highlight Westminster's commitment to fostering community connections and supporting education.
