Cedar Park City Council Approves Emergency Repair for Water Booster Pump with Smith Pump Company

Leander's BCRUA Board of Directors has taken decisive action to address a critical infrastructure issue following a mechanical failure of a major water booster pump. During their recent meeting on August 27, 2025, the board approved an emergency repair agreement with Smith Pump Company, based in Waco, Texas. The repair is essential for maintaining the reliability of the water delivery system, which serves the community's elevated storage tank.

The malfunction, which occurred approximately four weeks ago, initiated a series of damages to the pump, necessitating immediate attention. Fortunately, the board confirmed that the pump could be repaired rather than replaced, which would have taken significantly longer and cost three to four times more—estimated between $200,000 and $300,000. The repair cost is set at $89,855, with an anticipated timeline of 13 weeks for completion. The board plans to issue a notice to proceed with the repairs promptly.

In addition to the emergency repair, the board also approved a resolution to utilize competitive sealed proposals for the upcoming Phase 2A water treatment plant expansion project. This method is favored for its flexibility, allowing the selection of contractors based on qualifications and reputation rather than solely on price. This resolution is a routine measure to ensure compliance with state purchasing requirements.
