COSA Hosts Games Night as Seniors Annika Haslam and Lila Spiegel Shine at Film Festival

The Coronado Unified School District meeting on August 27, 2025, highlighted several exciting events and achievements within the Coronado High School community. The meeting began with an announcement about a community gathering featuring games and food, set to take place at 6 PM in the quad. Attendees are encouraged to connect with friends and support the Coronado School of the Arts (COSA) through donations.

In a notable recognition of student talent, seniors Annika Haslam and Lila Spiegel were congratulated for having their films selected for the prestigious All American High School Film Festival. Haslam's short film, "Alley Deals," will be showcased in the festival's animation segment, while Spiegel's film, "Cuon," will be featured in the broadcast journalism category. The festival is scheduled for October at the AMC Empire 25 theaters in New York City, marking a significant achievement for both students.

Transitioning to sports, James Hughes provided an overview of the upcoming athletic events for the week. The girls' golf team is set to compete in a tri-match at Balboa Golf Course starting at 3:30 PM. Additionally, the girls' volleyball teams will face off against Montgomery High School, with the freshmen and junior varsity teams beginning at 4 PM, followed by the varsity team at 5:30 PM. The boys' water polo team will also be in action at Helix High School, with junior varsity starting at 5 PM and varsity at 6 PM.

There will be no sports events scheduled for the following day, but on Friday, the boys' water polo team will return to Helix High School for another match, while the girls' indoor volleyball team will participate in a tournament at Street Water, starting at 3:30 PM.
