Franklin County airport partnership aims to boost workforce development with Haney College program

The Bay County government meeting held on August 27, 2025, focused on significant developments in workforce training and economic resilience in Franklin County. Airport Manager Steve Kirschenbaum, along with Angela Reese from Haney College and Commissioner Otis Amerson, addressed the board, emphasizing the airport's potential as a major employer in the area. Kirschenbaum noted that the airport has undergone significant improvements over the past two and a half years, including enhanced facilities and partnerships with Tyndall Air Force Base for training personnel. He stressed the importance of developing a skilled workforce to attract companies to the site.

A key point of discussion was the "Tango Flight" program initiated at the local high school, which allows students to build an airplane from scratch. This program is designed to provide students with practical skills and a pathway to further education in aviation and related fields. Haney College is investing approximately $450,000 to support this initiative, covering instructors, equipment, and administrative costs.

The meeting concluded with a commitment to expand training programs beyond aviation to include marine and construction industries, aiming to benefit not only Franklin County but the broader Northwest Florida region.
