Leesburg Council to Review FAA Funding for Control Tower and Taxiway Projects

The Leesburg Airport Commission meeting on August 27, 2025, highlighted significant advancements in airport infrastructure, particularly the upcoming runway rehabilitation project. The meeting also addressed the control tower's siding and environmental work, which has been funded almost entirely through grants. The environmental assessment reports are set to be submitted to the FAA next week, paving the way for public comment and further funding requests.

The commission is moving forward with the design of the new control tower, having selected the Minnesota-based firm EXP, known for its work on notable towers. The urgency behind these projects is driven by the need for improved facilities for air traffic controllers and the potential expiration of federal funding if not utilized within five years.
