Food Service Director Carrie Davis introduces innovative meal programs for school district

Davis reported on the successful launch of the high school kitchen, which now offers students two meal choices daily, moving away from less popular salad bars in elementary schools to more engaging meal options. “We’re doing hands-on homemade meals,” she stated, noting that a recent taste test yielded overwhelmingly positive feedback from students. Only one out of fifty children expressed dissatisfaction, requesting spicier food.

The food service team is also adapting to USDA regulations, which frequently change. Davis explained the challenges of sourcing milk and managing meal options, but reassured parents that a waiver allows for flexibility in offerings. She encouraged open communication, inviting parents to reach out with any concerns.

Looking ahead, Davis announced plans for a Thanksgiving meal, extending invitations to city employees and first responders, showcasing the school’s commitment to community connection. She expressed optimism for the upcoming year, highlighting a collaborative team spirit and a focus on continuous improvement in food service operations.
