Conroe Council Approves $259K Purchase Order for Montgomery County Hospital District Services

During a recent workshop meeting in Conroe, city officials discussed significant developments regarding partnerships and staffing in anticipation of the new Oscar Johnson Junior Community Center's opening.

One of the key topics was the approval of a lease agreement with the Montgomery County Hospital District, which will provide the city with an annual revenue of $78,794. This agreement, initially set for five years, has been extended for an additional year, allowing the city to lease extra capacity on its tower sites. This partnership has been beneficial for both parties, ensuring robust management of the radio infrastructure that supports emergency services in the area.

In addition to the lease agreement, the council reviewed a purchase order for $259,300 related to the maintenance of the radio tower sites. This cost reflects ongoing expenses associated with the infrastructure that has been in place since the mid-1990s. The city and the hospital district share these costs annually, ensuring that the radio system remains operational and effective for public safety.

Another major discussion point was the proposed reorganization of the Parks and Recreation Department in light of the new community center. Officials are seeking to create two new positions: a Community Program Manager and a Parks and Recreation Coordinator for facilities, rentals, and events. The Community Program Manager will oversee operations at the new center, which is expected to serve a variety of community needs, while the Coordinator will manage rentals across the city’s parks and the new facility. This restructuring aims to enhance service delivery and ensure effective management of the expanded operations.
