Reno County approves WFCO Steel Products job incentives for 20 new positions

Reno County is poised for economic growth as the Board of County Commissioners approved a letter of intent to support WFCO Steel Products in hiring 20 new employees. This decision comes as part of a job incentive program aimed at bolstering local employment and enhancing the county's economic landscape.

During the meeting on August 27, 2025, county officials discussed the potential expansion of WFCO, which plans to add these positions over the next year, with wages set at or above $21 per hour. The county's job incentive policy offers $1,500 per job after employees have been on payroll for four quarters, making this initiative a significant opportunity for both the company and the community.

Deborah Tufel from the Hutch Chamber highlighted WFCO's impressive recovery and growth since the pandemic, noting that the company has more than doubled its workforce since COVID-19. With a current employment of 80 full-time staff, WFCO is also investing in state-of-the-art equipment, including a 26 kilowatt Amada America Fiber Laser, which will enhance their production capabilities and allow them to diversify into agriculture, automotive, and construction sectors.

The commissioners expressed strong support for the initiative, recognizing the importance of local job creation and the role of the job incentive program in fostering economic development. The motion to approve the letter of intent was unanimously passed, paving the way for further discussions and a formal agreement in the coming weeks.
