City Council Schedules Special Meeting for Homelessness Commission Interviews

The City of Vista is making significant strides in addressing homelessness, as highlighted in the recent Standing Committee on Homelessness meeting. A key development is the formation of a new Homelessness Commission, which will be resident-based and aims to enhance community involvement in tackling this pressing issue.

The application window for the commission closed on August 25, with 12 applications received. A special meeting is scheduled for September 9, where the city council will interview applicants and select seven members to recommend for approval at a future council meeting, likely later in September or early October.

In addition to the commission's formation, the committee discussed updates to its meeting schedule. The next strategic plan workshop is set for October 2, and staff recommended canceling the September standing committee meeting to provide updates during this workshop instead. Starting in January 2026, the committee plans to alternate meetings between the standing committee and the newly formed homelessness commission, allowing for a more structured approach to addressing homelessness.
