Cedar Park Aquatics Division Honored for Lifeguard Skills Competition Success

The Cedar Park City Council meeting held on August 28, 2025, commenced with a commendation for the Cedar Park Parks and Recreation Department Aquatics Division. Director Mike DeVito introduced the lifeguard teams, celebrating their achievements in the Texas Public Pool Council Lifeguard Skills Competition. The Cedar Park Green Team, consisting of Luke Budge, Delia Krushevsky, Joshua Jamal, Zach Nagel, and Brandon Haas, secured first place in the Central Texas Aquatics Association regional competition. Additionally, a rookie team of first-year lifeguards, including Harlan Smith, Banner Morse, Austin Staffell, Max Jones, and Graham Miller, excelled by winning the rookie guard competition at the Texas Super Guard event.

Both teams advanced to the state competition, where the Green Team earned second place overall, while the White Team achieved third place. The lifeguard instructors, including Noah Roots, Alexis Gray, Trevor Von Wiperfeld, Luke Budge, Delia Krushevsky, and Bridal Bumpus, also distinguished themselves by winning first place in the lifeguard instructor competition at the Texas Superguard event. DeVito acknowledged the efforts of Aquatics Manager Jason Roberts and Aquatics Supervisor Caitlin Farris for their contributions to the teams' success.

Following the recognition, the meeting transitioned to an update on upcoming programs and events hosted by the Cedar Park Public Library and the Parks and Recreation Department. The Mayor congratulated the library team, led by Julia and Randy, for receiving the award for Best Public Place from the Urban Land Institute. This recognition highlighted the library's role in enhancing public space within the community.

Julia provided an overview of the library's summer activities, noting over 100 events per month, including crafts, classes, and music performances. The library experienced record visitor numbers and increased engagement, with many new members joining. Looking ahead, Julia announced an upcoming community health and wellness fair, featuring various partners, including Parks and Recreation, Age of Central Texas, and Dell Children's Medical Center. The fair will offer resource tables, demonstrations, and classes, promoting health and wellness in the community.

The meeting concluded with a focus on the positive developments within Cedar Park's recreational and community services, emphasizing the city's commitment to fostering a vibrant and engaged community.
