Oshkosh Schools Celebrate Coach Frank Shady and Students' Carnegie Hall Invitation

The Oshkosh Area Board of Education meeting held on August 25, 2025, focused on several key topics, including community acknowledgments, educational achievements, and upcoming events for the school year.

The meeting began with a recognition of the land on which Oshkosh sits, honoring the Ho Chunk Nation and Menominee tribes. This acknowledgment emphasized the importance of respecting the indigenous communities that have historically stewarded the land.

Board President Mr. Wright reported on the recent convocation at Oshkosh West High School, which energized teachers and students as they prepared for the new school year. He highlighted a moving message from senior Micah, who shared his personal journey and the importance of building strong relationships within the educational community.

Superintendent Dr. Davis provided a positive update, celebrating the invitation extended to students from Perry Tippler Middle School and Alps to perform at Carnegie Hall in June 2026. This opportunity reflects the students' hard work and dedication, with a fundraising concert scheduled for December 12 to support their trip.

The meeting also celebrated the dedication of the Frank Shady Field House, honoring the former Oshkosh North boys basketball coach. This event included a significant $3 million donation from NBA star Tyrese Haliburton, aimed at enhancing athletic facilities at Oshkosh North, including a new video board and renovated weight room.

Additionally, the brewing futures team collaborated with Winnebago County to express gratitude to local employees, showcasing the program's commitment to providing real-world experiences for students.

Lastly, the board recognized Max Garvey, a technology education teacher at Oshkosh North, for receiving the 2025 TechEd Teacher Award from the NEW Manufacturing Alliance, highlighting his contributions to education.

As the school year approaches, the board expressed excitement for welcoming students and staff back on September 2, marking a new chapter in the Oshkosh educational community.
