Montgomery County Board Celebrates Kindergarten Readiness with New Tradition

The Montgomery County Board of Education kicked off the new school year with a vibrant "Get Ready for Kindergarten" celebration, highlighting the significance of this milestone for young learners and their families. Board President Julie Yang welcomed attendees, emphasizing that kindergarten marks the beginning of a lifelong educational journey.

Yang shared a heartfelt personal story about her own children's first day of kindergarten, illustrating the emotional weight of this transition. "This is the very first page of your school story," she told the new kindergarteners, encouraging them to embrace their roles as heroes ready to explore and learn.

Superintendent Thomas Taylor joined the celebration, announcing the inaugural transition day on August 25, designed to help kindergarteners and other new students acclimate to their schools. He praised the hard work of teachers and families in preparing the children for this important step.

The event also featured special recognition for students and staff from College Gardens Elementary School, with gifts presented to the kindergarteners. The Board of Education had previously adopted a resolution declaring August as "Get Ready for Kindergarten Month," further underscoring the importance of this occasion.

As the celebration concluded, the Board reinforced its commitment to nurturing the potential of every child, setting a positive tone for the upcoming school year.
