City Council Discusses Woodland Aquatic Center Fees Ahead of 2026 Opening

Woodland City Council has taken a significant step towards enhancing community recreation by approving a new aquatic program and fee schedule during their September 2, 2025, meeting. The upcoming Woodland Aquatic Center, set to open in early 2026, will feature state-of-the-art facilities, including a 10-lane competition pool and a recreation pool with water play features. This new center aims to alleviate overcrowding at the existing Charles Brooks Community Swim Center and expand aquatic programming for residents.

Chris Bain, the Community Services Program Manager, presented the details of the new aquatic programs and proposed fees. The Woodland Aquatic Center will offer a variety of activities, including adult lap swims, water exercise sessions, and swim lessons throughout the summer months. Public swim hours will be available at both facilities, with specific times set for each location. Notably, both pools will provide one free public swim day each week, ensuring accessibility for all community members.

The proposed fee structure includes a daily rate of $5 for the Woodland Aquatic Center and $3 for Brooks, with additional family and individual pass options available. While this marks a shift from the previous free public swim program at Brooks, the city aims to maintain affordability while generating necessary revenue for facility upkeep. Importantly, low-income seniors aged 63 and older will have access to free lap swim and water exercise programs, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent participation in these vital community activities.

The council's decision reflects a commitment to improving recreational infrastructure and promoting active lifestyles among residents. With the anticipated opening of the Woodland Aquatic Center, the city is poised to offer enhanced aquatic programs that cater to all ages, fostering a healthier and more engaged community.
