Navro Proposes New Hotel Development in Silver Springs Community Redevelopment Area

Marion County officials are considering a new hotel project that could significantly impact the local economy and community development. During a recent meeting of the Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), representatives discussed a proposal for a new hotel in Silver Springs, which aims to revitalize the area and attract more visitors.

The proposal, presented by Jimmy Gooding on behalf of developer Navro, highlights the need for additional hotel accommodations in the Silver Springs CRA. Currently, there is only one hotel operating in the area, which has seen a decline in tourism over the years. Gooding emphasized that the new hotel would serve as a catalyst for further development, aligning with the county's master plan that calls for increased hospitality options.

The funding for this project would be supported through a tax increment financing (TIF) rebate program. This program is designed to utilize the increased tax revenues generated from the new hotel to fund the rebate, ensuring that the county is not financially liable for the project. The CRA would manage the rebate, allowing for a layered approach that could include additional grants and incentives for the developer.

Gooding noted that the area once thrived as a popular tourist destination, but has since struggled due to various factors, including competition from larger attractions. The proposed hotel aims to restore some of that lost appeal and improve the overall condition of the local hospitality industry.
