Marion County Commissioners Proclaim September 2025 as National Recovery Month

Marion County has officially declared September 2025 as National Recovery Month, a significant step in promoting awareness and support for individuals facing mental health and substance use disorders. The proclamation was presented during a recent Board of County Commissioners meeting, with Robin Lanier from SMA Health Care accepting it on behalf of the community.

The proclamation highlights the urgent need for community support, noting that over 500 residents accessed inpatient detox services this year alone. National Recovery Month, observed each September, aims to celebrate individuals in recovery and recognize the efforts of service providers and advocates who work tirelessly to make recovery possible.

A key event during this month will be the Ocala Recovery Festival, now in its eighth year, scheduled for September 13 at Tuscawilla Park. This festival, organized by the Marion County Children's Alliance and the Community Council Against Substance Abuse, will offer resources, educational outreach, and family-friendly activities, fostering a spirit of unity and celebration among attendees.

The Board of County Commissioners encourages all citizens, organizations, and community leaders to support recovery efforts, raise awareness, and reduce stigma surrounding mental health and substance use disorders. This proclamation not only underscores the county's commitment to recovery but also aims to inspire collective action towards a healthier community.
