Milwaukee County Transportation Seeks New Contracts for Janitorial and Security Services

In a hybrid meeting held at Milwaukee County's city hall, the Committee on Transportation and Transit convened to discuss several key items impacting the county's transportation infrastructure and services. This project, which aims to create a 6.7-mile shared bicycle and pedestrian trail, is expected to enhance connectivity from American Family Field to Havenwoods State Forest. The funding shift is designed to improve project management and grant tracking, ensuring that the county can effectively utilize state resources for community development.

In addition to these operational discussions, the committee received an informational report on the participation of disadvantaged business enterprises (DBEs) in county contracts. Director Lamont Robinson highlighted a notable increase in contract awards to small businesses, particularly Hispanic-owned firms, while also acknowledging a decline in contracts awarded to Black-owned businesses. This fluctuation was attributed to the nature of large contracts awarded in previous years, prompting a need for further investigation into the engagement of minority-owned businesses in future opportunities.
