Onslow County Celebrates National Library Card Sign Up Month with New Programs

Onslow County residents will soon enjoy enhanced community engagement and resources as the county celebrates National Library Card Sign-Up Month this September. The Onslow County Public Library is encouraging new and existing residents to obtain a library card, which serves as a gateway to a wealth of services and programs across its four branches.

During a recent meeting, library representative Torrey Parks highlighted the significance of the library card, emphasizing that it allows access to books, DVDs, storytelling kits, and various community programs. "With your free library card, you can use it at any of our four branches," Parks stated, underscoring the card's role as a "passport to endless possibilities."

To incentivize sign-ups, the library is offering promotional items such as cups, pencils, and bookmarks throughout September. This initiative aims to attract new families moving into the area, particularly as the fall season approaches, bringing a host of new programs and events.

The library is gearing up for a busy fall quarter, with over 115 programs planned, including youth programming set to resume on September 9. Parks also mentioned upcoming book sales and author events, as well as a Renaissance fair in October, promising a vibrant season for community engagement.

Residents can access the library's resources not only at the main branch in Jacksonville but also at locations in Richlands, Sneads Ferry, and Swansboro. The library's inter-county shipping program allows patrons to request materials from other libraries, ensuring a broad selection of resources.
