Waller County Considers Westcom Transition for ESD 200 Emergency Dispatching

Waller County officials are considering a significant shift in emergency dispatch services that could enhance local operations while providing essential office space for the fire marshal's office. During a recent Commissioners Court meeting, discussions centered around a proposal for the Emergency Services District (ESD) 200 to transition its dispatch services to Westcom, a regional dispatch center.

The proposal stems from a partnership established two years ago between Waller County and ESD 200, which oversees fire and emergency medical services in both Waller and parts of Harris County. As part of the original agreement, Waller County received funding to support dispatch operations, including the addition of new equipment and personnel. The current discussion reflects ongoing efforts to improve the efficiency and professionalism of emergency response services.

If approved, the transition to Westcom would not eliminate Waller County's role in dispatching. Initial calls would still be received by the Waller County Sheriff's dispatch, which would then transfer relevant calls to Westcom for fire and EMS response. This arrangement ensures that Waller County maintains a critical role in emergency communications.

In exchange for allowing ESD 200 to move to Westcom, Waller County would secure office space in a new ESD station located at FM 529. This space would be rented at a nominal fee, providing a cost-effective solution for the fire marshal's office, which is in need of additional facilities.
