Clayton County Schools Celebrate 39 Awards for Nutrition Excellence

The Clayton County Board of Education celebrated a remarkable achievement in school nutrition during its regular meeting on September 3, 2025. A total of 30 schools within the district received 39 awards from the Georgia School Nutrition Association, recognizing their outstanding efforts in promoting healthy eating among students.

The awards were distributed across four categories: a 3% increase in school breakfast participation, consistently high breakfast participation, a 3% increase in school lunch participation, and consistently high lunch participation. Notably, 15 elementary schools, 7 middle schools, and 8 high schools were honored, showcasing a strong commitment to student nutrition across all grade levels.

Among the standout programs, MD Roberts Middle School of the Arts, led by Kwanzita Marshall, excelled by earning awards in three categories, including consistently high breakfast and lunch participation, as well as a 3% increase in breakfast participation. Similarly, Riverdale High School, under Angela Christopher's leadership, achieved recognition for increasing both breakfast and lunch participation by 3%, along with maintaining consistently high lunch participation.

Several other schools also shone brightly, with five institutions receiving honors in two categories. These include Arnold Elementary School, Callaway Elementary School, Mondays Mill Middle School, Northcutt Elementary School, and River's Edge Elementary School, each demonstrating a commitment to enhancing student nutrition.

The board acknowledged the challenges faced by these programs, particularly in light of rising food and supply costs. Despite these hurdles, the dedication of the nutrition professionals was highlighted as a key factor in maintaining high performance and supporting student success in the classroom.

As the meeting progressed, the board expressed its congratulations to all the honored schools and their staff, emphasizing the importance of these nutrition programs in fostering a healthy learning environment for students.
