Montello Park Association Supports Accessory Structure Plans Despite Massing Concerns

The San Antonio Historic and Design Review Commission convened on September 3, 2025, to discuss several key agenda items, including a significant case concerning the construction of a new accessory structure at 327 Donaldson. Robin Foster, representing the Montello Park Neighborhood Association, voiced support for the staff's recommendations but raised concerns about the design's compatibility with the historic district.

Foster highlighted issues with the massing and scale of the proposed structure, particularly its roofline, which she argued did not harmonize with the main house. She also expressed worries about the proximity of the carport to the residential home, stating that the two structures were too close, which could create operational challenges for vehicle maneuvering.

The commission addressed various items on the consent agenda, approving most with staff stipulations. Notably, item number 4 was pulled for further discussion, with Conrad Martinez from RVK Architecture present to clarify details regarding the project.

The meeting concluded with the approval of several cases, allowing applicants to proceed without needing to remain for the remainder of the hearing. Certificates of appropriateness will be issued to the approved cases within ten days, ensuring compliance with local design standards.
