Moose Haven and BNA Nightmare secure grants for upcoming events in Clay County

Clay County's Tourist Development Council made significant strides in promoting local tourism during their recent meeting on September 3, 2025. The council approved funding for several upcoming events, which are expected to boost the local economy and attract visitors to the area.

The Moose Haven Chili Cook-Off, a beloved annual event, received a $5,000 grant. Scheduled for Veterans Day weekend, this year’s event anticipates around 6,000 attendees and will feature a classic car show and a bluegrass band. The event is projected to generate approximately 100 overnight stays, further supporting local hotels and businesses.

In addition, the council approved a $12,500 grant for the inaugural BNA Nightmare Flag Football Tournament, set to take place at the Regional Sports Complex on October 25-26. This two-day event is expected to draw around 70 teams and over 1,000 spectators, with a significant portion of participants coming from outside the area. The tournament's organizer, who has a successful track record in hosting similar events, aims to establish this as a recurring attraction in Clay County.

Lastly, the HUB Pickleball Tournament, known as the Florida Georgia Classic, was awarded a $25,000 grant. Scheduled for October 31 to November 2, this event is anticipated to be the largest amateur pickleball tournament in North Florida, featuring a unique glow-in-the-dark party and a junior division tournament. The event is expected to generate 500 room nights, significantly benefiting local accommodations.

These funding approvals reflect the council's commitment to enhancing Clay County's tourism landscape, with a focus on events that promise to bring visitors and economic growth to the region.
