Queen Creek Council Commemorates 9/11 and Announces Community Service Initiatives

Under the warm glow of the Queen Creek Town Hall, community leaders gathered to honor the spirit of unity and service during a poignant meeting on September 3, 2025. The evening began with a heartfelt pledge of allegiance, setting a tone of remembrance as Vice Mayor Martin reflected on the significance of Patriot Day and the National Day of Service. “We’ve taken something that was so tragic and horrific, and we’ve turned it into something that we can remember and come together as a nation again,” he shared, emphasizing the importance of community involvement.

Council Member McClure echoed these sentiments, highlighting at least ten service projects planned in the coming weeks. Schools, faith groups, and local businesses are joining forces to uplift one another, showcasing the town's commitment to service and solidarity. “It’s just a beautiful thing to be a part of,” McClure said, encouraging residents to participate in these initiatives and foster a spirit of giving back.

The meeting also featured an invocation by Pastor Cliff Daley from Flatiron Church, who prayed for the well-being of all residents, from the youngest to the elderly. His words resonated deeply, reminding attendees of the resilience and vulnerability that define the community, especially in light of the events of September 11, 2001.

As the meeting progressed, the council recognized September as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Council Member McClure read a proclamation emphasizing the importance of mental health resources, noting that suicide is the second leading cause of death among youth aged 10 to 14. The council urged residents to utilize the national suicide prevention hotline, 988, as a vital resource during crises.

In a spirit of connection, the council also announced “Reconnect Queen Creek Day,” scheduled for September 30. This initiative encourages residents to enjoy a phone-free day, fostering deeper connections with family, friends, and the community. Council Member Brown highlighted various activities, from dining at local restaurants to enjoying outdoor parks, all aimed at strengthening community bonds.

The evening concluded with the celebration of QC Neighborly Week, coinciding with the town's 36th birthday. Council Member Oliphant invited residents to embrace the town's agricultural roots and hometown values by supporting one another through acts of kindness. The QC Neighborly Award was introduced, encouraging residents to recognize their neighbors' contributions to the community.
