Hooksett's Town Council has approved a budget of $5,238,414 for the fire rescue department, reflecting a modest 2.1% increase primarily driven by contractual obligations related to personnel costs. This decision, made during the council's recent budget review meeting, underscores the town's commitment to maintaining essential services while managing expenses effectively.

A significant highlight of the meeting was the discussion surrounding the implementation of PFAS-free personal protective equipment (PPE) for firefighters, mandated by New Hampshire legislation passed last year. Chief Pete emphasized the challenges faced in sourcing this gear, noting that Hooksett is among the first fire departments in the state to receive it. The new requirement aims to enhance safety for firefighters by eliminating harmful chemicals from their gear. The budget includes provisions for seven sets of PFAS-free gear as part of a ten-year replacement program, along with three sets for new hires, totaling $4,326 per set.
