Fargo Unveils Plans for New Convention Center and Enhanced Downtown Connectivity

The Fargo City Convention Center Committee convened on August 29, 2025, to discuss the development of a new convention center in downtown Fargo. The meeting focused on design concepts, operational plans, and connectivity with existing infrastructure.

The committee outlined that the city will own the convention center, while ASM will manage operations, leveraging their extensive network to promote the venue. A significant aspect of the discussion was the planned connection to the Radisson Blu Hotel via a Skyway, enhancing accessibility for visitors. Notably, the committee clarified that a new full-service hotel is not part of the current proposal, which aims to benefit existing hotels in Fargo. Instead, the owner of the Radisson plans to construct a Marriott Moxie on the upper floors of the Radisson Hotel.

Parking logistics were also a key topic. The committee highlighted available adjacent parking spaces, including the Civic Center garage and a nearby lot currently for sale. The city owns several garages downtown, providing thousands of parking spaces. The vision includes implementing advanced wayfinding technology to simplify parking access, similar to systems used in other convention centers, such as the Columbus Convention Center.

Alan Dostert, president of EAPC Architects Engineers, presented design concepts emphasizing connectivity. The proposed convention center will encompass approximately 85,000 square feet and is designed to integrate seamlessly with the surrounding area, including pedestrian pathways and the Skyway system. The design aims to enhance the downtown experience by connecting the convention center to existing civic spaces, such as City Hall and the library, through a proposed Civic Square.

The committee emphasized that this project is not merely about constructing a building but about enriching the entire downtown area. The proposed layout includes functional spaces for exhibitions, meetings, and support services, ensuring a cohesive flow throughout the convention center.
