A major development is on the horizon for Harwood, North Dakota, as Applied Digital announces plans for a massive new data center facility. During the Cass County Commission meeting on September 2, representatives from Applied Digital detailed their ambitious project, which will feature a 280-megawatt facility costing approximately $3 billion.

The facility will consist of two buildings, each spanning 907,000 square feet, and is expected to create between 200 to 250 full-time jobs, primarily in skilled trades such as electrical and mechanical work. The project is set to occupy 160 acres southeast of Harwood, with construction anticipated to begin soon, aiming for the first building to be operational next year.

Applied Digital has been a significant player in North Dakota since 2021, with existing campuses in Ellendale and Jamestown. Their commitment to the state has been praised, with local officials recognizing the company as a model corporate citizen. The new facility is expected to contribute significantly to local property taxes, enhancing community resources.

In addition to the data center discussion, the meeting also addressed road right-of-way issues, with plans for a public hearing to discuss the permanent obstruction of a section of 30 Eighth Street. This resolution aims to facilitate ongoing infrastructure improvements in the area.
